Discarded solid wood
T’was the night before Christmas
when all through the house
Not a creature was stirring
except for the mouse.
It went straight for the edam
and then for the brie
but stopped for the gouda
which was under the tree.
On parmigiano! On pecorino!
On everything it climbed, including manchego.
To the top of the porch! To the top of the wall!
Now stash away! Stash away! Stash away all!
And as it grew tired, its head did it set
on gorgonzola chunks and a slice of raclette.
And before it slept it said with delight,
“Happy Christmas to all and to all a good night!”
